At a glance

  • Interactive speaking lessons that make you produce English, not just read it
  • Grammar lessons for the structures spoken English leans on
  • An audio pronunciation guide to hear words and phrases said properly
  • Offline downloads for lessons, so a commute without signal still counts
  • An AI conversation partner and role-plays to use what each lesson taught
  • Free to download, with optional in-app purchases
  • No pronunciation scoring; the guide lets you hear the model, it does not grade your attempt
  • No live human tutors or classes

A spoken English course only works if it makes you speak, which is where most courses, coaching classes and video playlists quietly fail. StudySes’s spoken English course is built around interactive speaking lessons and grammar lessons, with an audio pronunciation guide to hear the model and offline downloads so a lesson fits a commute. The difference from a video course is what comes next: every lesson has an AI conversation partner waiting to practise it on, with feedback on what you said. It is a course for people who need to talk, in interviews, at work and in daily life, not pass a grammar paper.

What the course contains
  • Interactive speaking lessonsYou answer and respond, not only read
  • Grammar lessonsThe tenses and structures spoken English runs on
  • Audio pronunciation guideHear words and phrases said properly
  • Offline downloadsLessons that work without a connection
  • Progress and goalsSee whether you actually practised this week
Conversation practice and role-plays need a connection; downloaded lessons do not.

How it works

You take a lesson, then you use it. An interactive speaking lesson presents a situation or a structure and asks you to respond, so you are producing English from the first minute rather than watching someone else do it. Grammar lessons cover the pieces spoken English depends on, the kind of tenses, question forms and connectors that make an answer sound fluent rather than correct but stiff. The audio pronunciation guide lets you hear words and phrases said properly, which matters most for the words you have only ever read.

Then the course hands you to the practice features. Finished a lesson on describing your work? Open a work role-play and describe it to the AI partner, who answers and then gives feedback on what you said. That loop, lesson then conversation then feedback, is what turns course content into speech you can produce under pressure. Progress analytics and goal setting sit over the top, so you can see whether the week’s plan actually happened.

Lessons can be downloaded for offline study. The conversation partner needs a connection, because it has to understand and answer you.

What it is for

The course is for people whose English is held back by speaking, not by knowledge. The typical learner has studied English for years, reads it comfortably, understands most of a film, and still goes quiet in a meeting or an interview. For them the problem is production: the sentences exist, but they have never been said aloud often enough to come out on time.

Three groups use it most:

  • Candidates preparing for interviews, including the many Indian graduates and professionals whose first interview in English decides a placement or a promotion. The speaking and grammar lessons, followed by the interview role-plays with feedback, are the core of that preparation; the job interview in English next week scenario turns it into a seven-day plan.
  • Professionals who already work in English and want to sound less hesitant in meetings and on calls. Grammar lessons plus daily conversation practice do more for this than vocabulary alone.
  • Learners living or travelling abroad who need everyday English for appointments, landlords and small talk. The learn English hub lays out the routes from here.

What it does not do

The course does not score your pronunciation. The audio pronunciation guide is a model to listen to and copy; it does not listen to you and award a number, and we would rather say so than offer a score we cannot stand behind. There are no live tutors or classes, no certificate at the end, and the conversation features need an internet connection; only downloaded lessons work offline.

It also does not promise fluency by a date. What it offers is the daily speaking volume that most learners have never had, and feedback on what they said; the pace is set by how often you open it.

A good class still beats any app for accountability, and a good teacher’s ear is the best pronunciation feedback there is. The app wins on the two things a class cannot give you: speaking time every day and feedback every time. Many learners use both, with the class for structure and StudySes for the daily reps between sessions.

Getting the most from it

Study in the order the course is built for: lesson, then conversation on the same topic, then the feedback, then the same conversation again. Keep lessons downloaded for the parts of your day without signal and save the AI partner for when you have a connection and ten quiet minutes. Add the words that keep tripping you up to your review routine with the vocabulary flashcards, and once a week replay the role-play that matters most to you, whether that is the interview or the team meeting.

Download StudySes for free; the first speaking lesson takes less time than reading this page did.

Frequently asked questions

Which app is best for spoken English?

The best spoken English app is the one that makes you speak every day and tells you something useful afterwards. StudySes combines speaking lessons, grammar lessons and an audio pronunciation guide with an AI conversation partner that gives feedback on what you said, so the course and the practice are in one place. Try any app for two weeks and keep the one you actually opened.

Can I learn spoken English at home without a tutor?

Yes, if you speak out loud daily rather than only watching lessons. A workable routine is one short StudySes speaking or grammar lesson, then five minutes of conversation or a role-play with the AI partner on the same topic, then the feedback. A tutor helps most for pronunciation and motivation; the daily speaking volume you can supply yourself.

How long does it take to learn spoken English?

Most learners notice a real change in confidence after four to six weeks of daily speaking, and a change in fluency after three to six months. Nobody can promise a date, because it depends on your starting level and how often you talk. What shortens it is producing sentences aloud every day; what lengthens it is studying grammar without ever speaking.

Can I use the spoken English course offline?

The lessons can be downloaded for offline study, which covers commutes and places without a reliable connection. The AI conversation partner and role-plays need a connection, because the partner has to understand and answer what you say. A practical split is lessons offline on the move and conversation practice at home.

Is StudySes good for job interview English?

Yes; interview English is one of the main reasons people use it. Work through the speaking and grammar lessons, then rehearse with the work role-plays, where the AI partner plays the interviewer and gives feedback on your answers. The interview next week page is a seven-day plan.
